Smoke rising! Must mean that there’s a fire in the stove

Actually, this was just a bit of paper to get some smoke to come out of the chimney. I couldn’t resist the photo op. I put up just one section of pipe with the cap. That won’t be sufficient for the long term, but I might be able to start a real fire in the stove to get some radiant heat, whatever the state of the unfinished walls. There’s still about 150 square feet of would-be wall space that is uncovered even by plastic. Still hoping to get something down on Monday, if the roads are travel worthy. There’s suppossed to be a bit of snow and ice through the week.

CHICKENS! The neighbor said that double-yolk eggs are laid by the rooster. None of those, yet.

A milestone of stove progress for the hermitage

The very kind neighbor, having finished the necessary welding on the stove, brought the stove up Holy Souls Mountain today on his amazing JD.

Here’s the stove sitting inside the hermitage, not waiting for a proper floor and wall. This is a milestone for the hermitage. Happy to have gotten it up the mountain before the forest floor turns to mush with the rains.

Here’s the neighbor, ready to pull away from the completed task.

The other stove that I thought I might use made it’s way back down the mountain.

On the lower left, you can see a small maple tree. Now, behind it, but in front of the other taller tree, you can a chunk of broken off red oak, all in splinters. I’m letting that weather a bit. I might stain some and put some gold leaf on the rest, so that it would fittingly become the backdrop for a statue in the chapel of the hermitage. We’ll see!

Firey progress on Holy Souls Mountain

The neighbor made the stove’s 16″x3″ rectangular smoke vent morph into an 8″ pipe in just a few inches, it being that he’s a master welder. Squint now!

The sparks can fly when cutting a stray bit…

And metal on fire can drip down…

He also has a bit of the artist in him. Here’s “Bicylcle Boy” in a close-up…

And from farther away…

Along with a few other such items, he’s also made the cross at the entrance to the property, part of which you can see on the visits page.
