It’s astounding that people could knowingly promote a lifestyle that is very dangerous. Not just to one’s health, but also there is a lot of violence in homosexual relationships. Gay on gay. Not gay bashing, as activists would have us believe.

It’s not because people are prejudiced against gays. It is simply a disordered lifestyle. The best way to cope with being gay is to live chastely and to withdraw from the “gay scene.” My brother never got a chance to do this, though.

[This morning I received by email the following press release asserting that when BSA Delegates meet in Dallas this week the votes they cast on the proposal to modify the ban on homosexuality in scouting will be given by secret ballot. Is this press release accurate? If what it says is true, people who care about scouting need to do everything possible to spread the word before the vote takes place. The secret ballot makes sense as a means of protecting individual acting on their own behalf from intimidation. But it makes no sense for people who are serving as representatives. This is why, for example, in votes of substance in America's legislative bodies each representative's vote is publicly declared and counted. Even their presence or absence is clearly recorded. As the name implies, delegates act on behalf of those they represent. True representation demands accountability. But the secret ballot procedure is precisely intended to prevent those who vote from being called to account for their vote. Therefore a secret ballot defeats the purpose of representation whenever people with delegated authority are voting on matters that require a substantive exercise of that authority (i.e., on matters not simply procedural.) This way of proceeding with the BSA's decision on homosexuality adds to the ugly impression that the BSA is being bullied by an elitist clique of powerful financial backers into adopting a policy detrimental to the organization and its members, and firmly opposed by a solid majority of them. The scouting way of life is one of honesty and honor, not duplicitous secrecy. I knew Bishop Christian as Father Christian and to this day have difficulty squaring my memory of a sterling young priest with accusations of his acting like a heartless apparatchik. [He just needs to tell the story about what he knows, that's all.] I’ve read the record on Bishop-Accountability.org [I'm thinking that they are not reliable since their statistics page is terribly skewed. Those who exaggerate do not help.] and don’t doubt the reality of what I see. It just breaks my heart. [Keep loving with a broken heart! As to the other two: I’m afraid nothing surprises me anymore about Msgr. Arsenault or Bishop McCormack. If they are in any way complicit in suppressing evidence that could exonerate Fr. Macrae, or in hindering his chances of successful appeal, then I agree with you: better to get it out now and be done with it. We’ve all had enough. A quick resolution might cut down on the numbers of Catholics who will leave the church out of sheer fatigue. [That would be terrible if people left the Church. One way not to leave is not to have such fatigue. People get donor fatique, for instance, because they are carrying themselves along with their own love, which we will are all always tempted to do, of course. Carrying on with the love of Christ, seeing His wounds, living His wounds, is a different living of life altogether. Stress such as in Gethsemane, to be sure, but not despair. Instead, all the more zeal to share with others the greatest love of one's life, Christ Jesus. Note that various members of various groups will drop comments on various sites saying that Father Gordon is surely guilty in the T.G. case since there were other accusations against Father Gordon dating back much earlier. But since T.G.'s name was not revealed in those documents, one doesn't know that this was also T.G., making wild accusations about Father Gordon when, in fact, he wasn't yet a priest, was not a seminarian for the Diocese of Manchester, and was not even in the parish of the accuser for years and years to come. It's not even trumped up. It's a false accusation. Don't give up, Granite State. We need you.]

Can there be, in your Granite State, conceivably, tampering with a pool of possible jurors preliminary to any voir dire, to the effect that any jury selected is a stacked jury? And are there penalties for that?

No damage to our house but the house two doors down has siding ripped off the east side of it. They said that all warnings and threats have been lifted in our area, but it is thundering and so I left my stuff in the shelter just in case we have to run back down there. Fences and trees were blown over but no tornadoes, just high wind, thank the Good Lord! And thank you all for prayers.

Father Byers, is it okay just to say that Bishop Skylstad’s comment at the end of the article accusing parents who do not want their Church to talk to their young children about sex and sexual abuse is horrifying and unwarranted. [horrifying and unwarranted, good descriptions] The indirect accusation is that parents don’t want their children exposed to this, because the parents are abusive, or, that the parents are responsible for the scandal because they actually respected the innocence of their children and did not start teaching them about sex as soon as they learned to talk.

I have already taken my survival gear down into the shelter and now I wait. My grand daughter and I have blessed our house with holy water, burnt blessed palm and prayed to God the Father in the Name of Jesus, through the intercession of St. Eurosia for safety of all in harms way. It is also comforting to have the Epiphany blessing over our doors as well as a huge medal of St. Benedict on our front door and smaller blessed medals on the 4 corners of our house. I feel bad being afraid but I am a human. I just keep repeating, “Jesus, I trust in You.”

You mention how we see God’s grandeur in even a dust mote. The thing that awoke me to God’s grandeur was the termite. When I found out that they can not easily digest wood and depend upon protozoa and microbes in their gut to produce their digestive enzymes I was astounded. If God could go to so much care for a bug which most people consider a pest – what love must He have for us? Wow – just wow!
