Join me with this video Way of the Cross I made on Mount Carmel, Israel — What a fright. Such violence in the Holy Land.

I made this set of videos (about 20 minutes all told) during my time living just over the cave of Elijah on Mount Carmel, Israel. The O.C.D.s had invited me to stay there for an entire month during the years that I was a chaplain at Lourdes. I must say that these videos are very emotional for me to watch to this day. What a fright! But… Jesus, Mary’s Son, is just that good and kind! Even though in watching these you don’t move from station to station yourself, I’m sure your heart will be transported to be right next to Jesus, to be with Him in solidarity, and to be right next to His dear mother as she accompanies our Lord, again in all solidarity.

Please God, I’ll be able to watch these heart-rending videos frequently during this Lent…

And… and…

Thank you, Father, for such a start this Lent. Oh, how our Lord is still very much despised, scorned, and even scourged this very day – I wonder if the souls who were so enraged and disfigured His face on the stations realized the irony of their actions – in disfiguring and trying to destroy something beautiful and meaningful they in effect, made these stations very “real” – as painful as it is to see the disfigured features in the stations, they are just porcelain – what horror for Our Mother to see the very real disfigurement that was meted out to Her Son. We still cry out for Barabbas this very day, don’t we?

I raised an eyebrow at your tagging – “interreligious dialogue” – really? Although in retrospect, I suppose the message IS loud and clear.

  2. Thank you, Father. I have posted this in my forums for our members.

The hateful obliteration of the face of Christ only means that the faces of all His followers can be imposed, and the faces of all the suffering on this earth. They cannot obliterate Christ no matter how hard they try. He is here among us, still suffering in His Church. When I saw what they had done, the defiant spirit in me wanted to climb into the Station in His place – not that I could ever suffer what He did.

Thank you so much for bringing this video back. I had it on my favourites last year but then my computer crashed and I lost it. Since you have made it available,I will offer up reparation for the descration of all churches, religious sites and items when I pray the Way of the Cross. This kind of destruction is very disturbing and we must pray against it. God bless you Father George.

Thank you for this video. Sad to see the destruction. This will be good to watch and pray for Lent, even with the destruction, it gives us something else to pray about.

  7. Claire: I should probably add that the O.C.D. crowd had contacted the German company who made the tiles. As it turns out, that company still exists and can supply them with new tiles. I don’t know if they have done that or not.

Thank you, Father George. While watching this video I truly felt sorrowful, as I should while praying the Stations. The rejection of our Lord in our time is evident. So sad.
