Done! So, a commencement!

The view from the room I was given at the Institute of the Incarnate Word. You would never guess that this was in the beltway of D.C. It’s like I never left the hermitage!

And now, it’s time to go back to the hermitage. I’m sitting at the gate at Reagan National Airport, ready to board the flight for Charlotte. The massive blizzard ready to dump three feet of snow on Boston just missed us.

Thank you for your prayers. I think the conference was well received. I’ll try to put up some audio if I figure out how to make the file a bit smaller.

I was so happy to give this conference, as it will hopefully act as a kick start for me. I fear the fear when it comes to Genesis, as such a passage is just so awesome. The fire from the throne of God is too intense! But I guess that’s what the hermitage is for, if only the angels would smack me down and keep me at it. Yikes!

Some highlights:

  • I met Dawn Eden for the first time and we had some time to chat, mostly about the Lord’s good providence. Our Lord is, in fact, very good and very kind!
  • I had a bit of time to catch up with a seminarian I knew at the Josephinum and who now belongs to the IVE, and was instrumental at having me at this conference.
  • I had a bit of time to catch up with another seminarian I knew at the Josephinum and who knows many HSH readers. We plotted on getting the Catholic European Scouts to branch out in the USA, what with the horror that the BSA is going through at the present time. Again, I urge the BSA to look at the results of the John Jay report. They are only inviting trouble, provably culpable on their part after the John Jay report.
  • Wonderfully, I had a couple of hours with Father Klemens Stock, S.J., for the evening meal after the conference, and then another hour at breakfast this morning. Father was my tesina director at the Biblicum when he was rector. He’s now just finishing his second term as Secretary of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. What a devout Catholic, great priest, gentleman, scholar.

All this was a great shot in the arm for me. Perhaps I will buckle down and actually set up a desk in the hermitage, of all things! For now, I just have a chair. But I do like Extreme Sport hermiting!

By the way, the IVE is open to inquiry for vocations. What a great CATHOLIC, just normal good Catholic Institute of Consecrated Life. Google them: IVE Institute of the Incarnate Word.

    Fr. Byers!

It was so good and so kind of you to come to share with us your powerful work and remind us of the Enmity at work in us by God’s grace, since we are children of the Immaculate Conception.

Those who have never heard of the IVE should definitely check out our website: http://www.iveamerica.org

    Fr. Byers,

Thank you for your talk at our conference and for the witness of your faithful and joyful priesthood. I didn’t get the chance to talk w/ you much, but I hope one of these days we’ll be able to lure you out of your hermitage again, and that I’ll be able to do so then!

    God bless, and thanks again…
