I took this picture of Holy Souls Hermitage Angelus Bell the other day. That bit of snow has melted since then. Note the cross in the background.
After arriving at Charlotte airport, on the shuttle bus to the parking lot, I got a call from two great priests who were there to intercept me on my way to the hermitage and take me out to dinner at the expense of one of the best priests in Charlotte (and that’s saying something). They’re old friends, and we had a great meal and an inspiring chat, catching up on old times. What a great way to cap off the day coming back from Washington, D.C. All in all, an excellent couple of days.
But now I’m back in the hermitage. The rest of the breviary is done. Mass is offered. Jesus has been enthroned back in the tabernacle. A new sanctuary candle has been lit. A fire has been started. The chickens were inspected and are doing well. Laudie-dog was fed and is very content under the wood stove. I’m ready to go to sleep.

Accompany me, Father George David Byers, S.S.L., S.T.D., as I begin life as a Catholic Priest-Hermit by choice. Holy Souls Hermitage is dedicated to the sanctification of my fellow priests, bishops, deacons & seminarians going through the purgatory of this life or the next. Prayer and sacrifice go up, of course, for both Benedict XVI and the next Successor of Saint Peter.

Thank you for ending with the all is well. I bet more than one of us secretly were holding our collective breaths for your chickens and Laudie dog – I know, I know, such a short trip but still, you’ve managed to endear them into to our hearts as well. Brings a smile to hear about how well the presentation went and more especially the great friends you were able to visit with. Very happy for you, Father.
Glad you are back! I sure missed you.
God bless you Father. Good Night.
