Will have to look up what Black Friday is as I have never heard of it. I remember we had a Black Wednesday once when I think the £1 sunk!

  2. Pelerin: Black Friday in the USA is all about buying gifts for Christmas. But the commercialism has turned it into something almost dangerous.

  3. I was in the store on Wednesday and the line was long, as only two check-out stands were open. I kind of grumbled and the lady in front of me said, “Just wait until Friday!” My reply was, “There is no way under the sun that I would be in town on Friday.” She looked at me as if I were crazy, lol.

If Christians celebrated Christmas during Christmas instead of during Advent, not only would we be following the Church calendar, prayers, etc., but also, if one wanted to actually give a gift to someone, wait until December 26th to shop for gifts. You have until the Epiphany to celebrate and have parties and exchange gifts. And hey, can you imagine how cheap goods will be on the 26th? CHEAP!

When my dad was alive he used to send a simple envelope to me. There were five folded up pieces of paper inside the envelope. These were my Christmas gifts. They said, “When in need of prayer, send me one of these. Good for one Holy Rosary”. I think I have reaped many benefits from those Holy Rosaries.

  4. That’s just awesome, Denise. What a great father!

You have lots of good advice here. Which reminds me of a post I need to put up!

  5. Dear Father,
Thanks for your VERY kind words about my humble blog! In truth, I “filched” the image from the blog of Msgr. Charles Pope of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. Msgr. has an amazing ability of finding links between issues concerning the Church with cultural references (such as the image yesterday). He has another cultural reference today found here:

    http://blog.adw.org/2012/11/an-image-for-the-kingdom-in-a-beer-commercial/

With all the amazing blogs by priests (such as this one), it is not hard to get a few links together each day which are “must reads”!

    Pax tecum!
    D.v.
