We’ve been with sub-freezing temperatures on many nights. Yet…
Which reminds me of Lourdes. I have some pictures of some itsybitsy roses right next to the grotto. They were bursting through inches of ice and snow (lots of ice) in February, when it had been below freezing for weeks on end.
Of course, there are the usual… but always extraordinary…
And…
And…
And yes, I am thankful to our Lady as well. For she brought us Jesus.

Accompany me, Father George David Byers, S.S.L., S.T.D., as I begin life as a Catholic Priest-Hermit by choice. Holy Souls Hermitage is dedicated to the sanctification of my fellow priests, bishops, deacons & seminarians going through the purgatory of this life or the next. Prayer and sacrifice go up, of course, for both Benedict XVI and the next Successor of Saint Peter.

Did you plant that rosebush, Father? Perhaps to remind you of Lourdes?
The pictures are all beautiful. I have a lot of plants and flowers in my office. They give the atmosphere a sense of reverence and cleanliness. I have always considered houseplants and floral arrangements to be a hobby that nice people take up. At least in my mind!
Jennifer: I didn’t plant that! Holy Souls Mountain has an abundance, everywhere. For instance, this past Spring I counted 140 Lady Slippers right next to the hermitage.
