A poll: Can Catholics, though not voting Democrat, be registered as Democrats in good conscience?

It seems to me that the Democratic Party is quickly turning into something akin to the Nazi Party. But I’m no politician. Maybe you turn something around from within. Maybe being a member provides the party with momentum. I don’t know.

A poll is in order. You can explain your answer in the comments box.

I can’t see who voted for what.

The 2012 Democratic Platform no longer seems to have any respect for Judeo Christian values. They appear to have moved to a platform of atheism or possibly freemasonry by removing references to God and no longer recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Their policies on abortion, marriage, sexuality and freedom of religiion oppose the teachings of our Church and the US Constitution.

I no longer see how, in good conscience, a Catholic could intentionally remain a registered Democrat.

  2. If one has eyes to see and ears to hear, IMHO, the answer should be “NO”.

with the party stand now removing God and standing for abortion and other things that are against church teachings, i cant see how in good conscience you should stay a registered democrat.

It’s certainly appearing less realistic to think that a Democrat should stay a Democrat in hopes of influencing the party toward pro life values. On the contrary a radically pro abortion rights “orthodoxy” is being enforced. If being a Democrat means that one assents to that, then one should not be a Democrat. There are still a few holdout pro-life Democrats, and I do think they seem like people of conscience. For instance this African American protestant ministor NY State Senator who got a surprise supportive phone call from Cardinal Dolan: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/2012/08/ruben-diaz-raves-about-call-from-tim-dolan But they are kind of like the Christians in Muslim lands where building churches is outlawed and they are continually under brutal attack and it is made clear they are not tolerated anywhere in “muslim lands”.

In light of their most recent platform, the only thing I can currently think of more oxymoronic than the term ‘extinct life’ is the term ‘pro-life democrat’.

  6. As stated above, the Democrate Party has made it its platform to support and evangelize abortion and homosexual marriage. To be Democrat is to support these things. I think it would be wise for the non-political Catholic to avoid Parties altogether if unfamiliar with both, just so to vote for life whereever it is the issue. Just a thought!

I beleive there was a time when it was reasonable to hope that the Democratic party could be saved from within. A time as short ago as three or four years. Now, however God has been banished from their platform. A pro-life Democrate has about as much chance of speaking at their convention as they have of getting a decent appointment anywhere in their administration.
The real question becomes now how long will the bishops refrain from speaking against membership in the Democratic Party and how will history see thier reluctance. Will future generations indite the USCCB for not speaking agianst the Democratic party with teh same furvor that some have shown to European bishops who soem fell were not vocal enough in thier opposition to the National Socialist Party?

  8. Hello TerryC: Good insight about would-be reformers being locked out of changing anything.

When I ask friends and acquainences why they support the Democratic Party, they frequently say, “my Dad (or Grand Dad) was a Democrat and if it was good enoug for him it’s good enough for me.” I have to ask them, “your Dad was a intelligent man, right?” They answer, “sure he was” and then I ask them “well, if he was still alive, being an intelligent man, do you think he would still approve of the democratic party?” It is interesting to see their reaction. I think so people are just taking the easy way out and not really thinking about the issues or understanding the responsibilities involved with voting.

  10. The Dem Party, as the RINOs are going to implode from within. I’m an independent but hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils, our country having become a Godless wonder in government. Anyone who thinks they can change these parties from within is on some high-powered smoke. My recourse is to do my civic duty and pray, pray, pray. In the end, God will still be in charge no matter what they say.
