It’s a game, a deadly game, for a few catholic conservative-but-only-by-way-of-political-correctness-bloggers, to scream and shriek and shrilly wail about “Novus Ordo Priests”, who, for them, are all Marxist-homosexualists, almost all of whom, they say, are effete. Using the stats of the John-Jay report, this ludricrous rant would have it that all “Novus Ordo Priests” are potential molesters of youngsters.
Just one of the many criminal effects of such rants, of these, ironically, Marxist-homosexualist rants, is that people who were about to make a good confession after many years of being away may now not do so. Nefas est.
“But Father, but Father,” the ranter protests, “you complain even about bishops who do the wrong thing!”
Yep. I do… about those who actually do what is wrong. And I always make this distinction for people: if Father So and So teaches what is wrong, don’t hestitate to tell people that what he says is wrong. If Father So and So ignores the rubrics and won’t read what’s written, don’t hesitate to take it up with him and/or the bishop and/or the Holy See.
But don’t be belitting Father So and So because of idiosyncracies (no matter how distasteful), or because of personality conflicts (no matter how terrible), or because you think you are holier (in which case you are not), or because you’re making a power-move among the power-groups of the parish (which only shows your weakness), or among those of the internet (which only points to narcissism), or because you… wait for it… condemn to hell priests who offer the Most Holy Sacrifice in the Ordinary Form, along with our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, gloriously reigning, because he also is a “Novus Ordo Priest”… or because — and this is to the point– because you note what you think is a narcissistic trait in Father So and So, or a weakness in Father So and So, a bit of impatience, a bit of not-yet-saintliness…
“But Father, but Father,” the ranter protests, “why not belittle Father So and So? Shouldn’t he be belittled because he is a priest and therefore has a special obligation to get everything in every way right, especially in my own eyes?”
Be helpful to Father So and So, but don’t belittle him. And there is something more to consider because of the fact that he a priest:
Remember that Father So and So is able to absolve sin. People may hesitate and not go to confession and then not be on their way to heaven because of your words belittling him. You will have to answer for such words to our Lord. Perhaps He will give you one last chance to repent before you die, one last chance to go to confession, but there may only be one of those “Novus Ordo Priests”, one of those, in your opinion, “Marxist-homosexualist” “effete” ”Novus Ordo Priests,” who will be available to grant you a totally valid absolution. And then you may well refrain from being absolved, not being able to face your condemnation of “Novus Ordo Priests.” And then our Lord may well say to you, “O.K., then, so, just go to hell.” And you will, then, go to hell, blaspheming the whole way, and then for eternity, saying forever, “But he offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Ordinary Form and therefore is to be damned forever and ever and ever and ever and ever….” Meanwhile, you may well see Father So and So in heaven, especially because he carried well the cross of your belittling rants, and asked Jesus to forgive you, a forgiveness you may, however, reject, ever so sadly.
“But Father! But Father! Priests have even abused youngsters!”
Yes, they have, a few of them. Many who have gone to prison have also been innocent. Follow the Father Gordon MacRae case (about) at These Stone Walls. Instruct yourself about this along with Cardinal Dulles and Father Neuhaus. The problem is that vigilante Marxist-homosexualists do not consider due process for priests a viable course of action. Vigilante Marxist-homosexualists attack the Lord’s anointed just to do so: If there is an accusation, he’s as guilty as hell, no matter what, all in the name of, you know, justice. There is a hatred for the priesthood as priesthood. This has nothing to do with the Ordinary Form or Extraordinary Form of the Mass. It has to do with keeping people away from Confession.
Dear readers.. What’s the response to be? Well, going to Confession, of course. Regularly, frequently. When there are penitents going to Confession, this very fact is also an encouragement to all priests, whatever Form of Mass they offer, to go to Confession themselves. And when that happens, you will noticably see how Mass is offered with a change for the better, in either the Ordinary or Extraordinary Form of the Mass.
Don’t be fooled. Rubrics can also be ignored in the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Just ask some really old priests what also happened back in the day, if there was ever a priest who ignored the rubrics. It can happen. And, just to say, there are priests who offer both Forms of Holy Mass. And there have been heretics and horrific sinners who offered only the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. You see, this will be the next step of the Marxist-homosexualists. They will note that because this or that priest of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass committed this or that sin, that all priests of the Extraordinary Form are Marxist-homosexualists, most of whom are effete. Oh, that’s right… That’s already been done.
The point of all this? Help your priests of whatever Form, as it were, to be good, holy priests. Go to Confession.
Why bother to answer such a rant? Because the hermitage is dedicated to priests who are also undergoing the purgatory of this life. Because such rants condemning priests just to condemn them are unjust. Because such rants, as I’ve said, may make people hesitate to go to Confession.
So, then, a prayer for such ranters, for their conversion, and a prayer for priests to assist them on their way to becoming great saints: Hail Mary…

Accompany me, Father George David Byers, S.S.L., S.T.D., as I begin life as a Catholic Priest-Hermit by choice. Holy Souls Hermitage is dedicated to the sanctification of my fellow priests, bishops, deacons & seminarians going through the purgatory of this life or the next. Prayer and sacrifice go up, of course, for both Benedict XVI and the next Successor of Saint Peter.

fighting the same fight Father:

Thank you, MOI, for the tremendous, much needed and much appreciated work of http://www.cureprayergroup.org
I’m really out of the loop. What is a “Novus Ordo Priest”?
Hello Carolyn,
“Novus Ordo”, short for “Novus Ordo Missae” is Latin for “New Order”, short for “New Order of Mass,” that is, as oppossed to the way that Mass was celebrated for so very many centuries up until 1970. In 2007, Pope Benedict encouraged both of these “forms” of Mass to be offered in parishes, the Ordinary Form and the “New Order” or “Novus Ordo” being the same thing, while the Extraordinary Form and the way Mass was celebrated throughout the centuries being the same. This was done to preserve the rich traditions of the Church and as a bid for unity in the Church with those who would like to keep to these rich traditions. There was quite a bit of controversy including excommunications (now lifted). We want unity in all charity and all truth. Some people get carried away, as do those who make such extreme remarks about priests who offer the New Order of Mass. I defend priests!
De rien, mon père, your kinds words are appreciated. Please pray for diocesan priests, they are really under attack, I am sure in other diocese as well, but in the RD, it is a concern.
The grappin is focusing especially on “recently” ordained priests. Best novena even: the one of the Curé! http://www.cureprayergroup.org/novenaforpriests.htm

@catholic123 — I might hesitate with that since I don’t even use facebook, linkedin, etc., to the consternation of quite a few. I just get a mental block when it comes to such things.
No problem at all. I don’t quite understand it all either but I guess the main idea is to let you know you write great posts!!
I’ve been thinking (which can be dangerous at the best of times, lol).
I was thinking that a lot of the problem with priest/parishioner relationships are that we are expecting perfection from our priests. We expect that they are above error, temptations or “bad days at the office” because they are the mirror of Jesus Christ. In our minds, the human factor is not taken into the equation. So then when we encounter the humanity in a priest, we are shocked to see that the golden idols that we have created in our minds are tarnished! We don’t like what we see, so we try to destroy these false images that are of our making, by attacking the priests, or the church or the pope, etc..
Priests are the front line against evil, temptation and satan and are under constant attack. Jesus did not expect the priests to fight the battles alone. He also assigned disciples to engage in battle through evangelism, prayer and love of one another to support the priests who are our leaders and our strength through Jesus Christ.
Yes, priests have been given incredible power and graces from God that we may never fully understand. Yes, we need our priests to lead us to holiness and heaven. However, the priests need us as well. Holy priests make holy people but also, holy people make holy priests. We need each other. This is the way that God wanted it to be.
Divided we fall. Satan know this.. Just like honourable soldiers, don’t leave your fallen priests behind! When they fall, pray and help even more! We need to give our priests total support no matter how human they show themselves to be. It is not our place to judge one another, but be discerning, prayerful, and supporting of those who have fallen and are in need.
Jesus fell three times…EVEN OUR LORD FELL! But in the journey He took on the Via Dolorsa He showed us how to share the cross through Simon; He lent comfort to the women of Jeruselem; He granted enormous graces to Veronica and mankind when she gave Him her veil; He kept going despite the humiliation, pain, obstacles and continual collapsing on the journey because He was determined to save mankind. Let’s try to understand the role priests have when they too carry their crosses on their Via Dolorsa journey with Christ. Priests are sent trials and tribulations because they are the sacrificial lamb along with Christ. They offer up their sufferings FOR US in union with Jesus. If you see a “tarnished priest”, perhaps this is God sacrificing for you through that priest. Think about it. Sometimes situations are not what they seem.
Love your Lord in your Priest. Thanks be to our loving and merciful Lord!!
Well said, Cathe. Distinguishing between the physical difficulties our Lord would have encountered, blood in the eyes, being tripped, having the cross pushed to the ground, etc., and the moral weakness of us priests is necessary, but, as you point out, there is also a lesson there. How many there are who would condemn Jesus for falling! How many condemn priests for anything and everything, even in an unwarranted fashion. Yikes! On behalf of all priests, thanks for the encouragement.
Fr. Dariusz Oko published “WITH THE POPE AGAINST THE HOMOHERESY” in June 2012.
Quote:
Michael Voris has an interesting take on the role of this ‘homoheresy’ within the Church and its implacation for the coming conclave.
Yes, I saw that while researching another post over on lifesitenews.com. I wouldn’t blame this on the Novus Ordo, however. Bill Donohue over at the Catholic League had a great comment on all this:
“Father Donald B. Cozzens warned us many years ago that the priesthood was becoming a “gay profession.” Notre Dame theologian Father Richard McBrien also spoke about the “gay culture” in the Church, and the damage it was doing. Father Andrew Greeley coined the term “Lavender Mafia” to refer to the way homosexual priests cover for each other. All three priests have stellar liberal credentials.”
