On bears and dogs and… saints! Rottweilers are GREAT!

How about a dog that scares bears to scare any bear that comes by? Rottweilers are a great dog. But then there’s Saint Seraphim of Sarov…

But… but… I’m not a saint! Of course, you have to feed dogs… And Rottweilers are huge, and eat alot. I have eggs, but they would eat a dozen a day! Hmmm… I could have more chickens what with the rooster doing his job…

…or a small, nervous, yappy dog. A miniature doberman? They are no bigger than a loaf of bread but have the valiant heart of their full-sized brothers. One of those would alert you, warn off the bear, and eat less than a big dog. And he would be no end of amusement if you take him to town… large-sized you, teeny dog. :-)

  2. Much better a fullsized rottweiler chained to the rollbar of the jeep!

Okay. Rottweiler + firearm. Just hope the dog doesn’t develop a taste for fresh chicken. :-)

Even a mid-sized or small mutt will at least give a bear second thoughts when it starts barking and nipping at its heels. Any sort of terrier mix would drive a bear batty. (might drive the chickens batty too, though).

  5. No yappiness! Quiet dogs! Rottweilers are super quiet, super confident. They just quietly take in the situation, calmly, however much violence or threat there is.. and then… they deal with it.

Call Animal control, and see what they suggest. It doesn’t hurt to ask the intercession of St.Seraphim, either!

Saint Seraphim of Sarov…called the St. Francis of Assisi of the East. I love this saint. St. Seraphim of Sarov is a powerful saint…I agree with Carolyn about seeking this saint’s intercession.
When I hear of Rottweilers I think of drug dealers and Hell’s Angels who use these dogs to protect their properties, stashes, etc. and to keep away law enforcement. Perhaps if you get this type of dog maybe it will give them a new image and reputation. Like any living creature, if you give it love it will give you undying devotion and protect you with it’s life. Look at the story of “Old Yeller”…that was a real tear jerker. I don’t think it would hurt to raise your quality of companionship from chickens to dog, either. As for the food, it is amazing how God always provides. God bless you Father!

  8. Yes, well, if I were ever to take a break and play with the dog for a moment, for instance, while collecting some firewood in the forest here, I think I would have to have some up-to-the-elbow foundry gloves, which are hard to bite through. Rottweilers, though very playful, don’t know their own strength at all. In my younger days, I used to “fight” with rottweilers, letting them knock me to the ground from running jumps, only to throw them a good ten feet in the air with my feet while doing a backflip, having been ready for such “attacks”. Of course, they would land already running back to have the same thing happen again, with a good time being had by all. Onlookers were, of course, horrified at the snarling and growling coming from both me and the dogs. Rottweilers love extreme sport fighting. Just a sport, mind you. No real danger.

You may have seen this already, but the Hermeneutic of continuity blogspot maybe can help:

Maybe this could be a better solution?

Apparently Howard Burch lived to tell the tale, check out his customer review:

Air Horn Supreme November 7, 2010
    By Howard Burch
Amazon Verified PurchaseI bought this air horn to chase away an annoying bear that keeps showing up in our back yard. It worked great. The loud horn put him on the run and we haven’t seen him since. The price was good and shipping was fast, as is the norm with anything I purchase on Amazon.

  12. Well, I don’t know. I am pretty good with a thurible! But, yes, the horn would be good. Much better than the pepper spray. I’m deadly allergic to the spray. I’m dead if I get anywhere near it. Yikes! But the horn, yeah, that would work. I suppose there’s different decible strengths, etc…

I don;t know what is going on here but I run a rescue and I save bullies: mainy rotties, pit bulls, etc. They are my seetest dogs. I visit about every rottie that enters a pound in So Cal and we save about 90% of them. Only 10% and it is 1 out of 10 has sm temperament issues. For the most part all the rotties I see are great family dogs, very loya, sweet, super playful. Our pack is not small, they come and go and they are my most obedient dogs. Very predictable, they show their true colors in 5 min, nothing in the closet. Some have small issues here and there but nothing major. You get a crazy one once in a while, rare, but those are the pones that have been dumped in the yard not socialized just for protection reasons. My rotts are the best! BUT, I have to say that my pits are most affectionate kissing maniacs, they really love human contact. Not very obedient to say the least, more like none, they are wireballs but well socialized pits are very sweet and goofy. Love my bullies! (P.S. I don;t do doberamans however or GSDs, they are not straight up like rotts and pits always leaving me wonder what they are thinking…) ADOPT A BULLY!!!

  14. Very cool! I’m so happy to know that Rotties are the best of the best. I always thought so. I wonder if they get hip problems like German Shepherds?
