I made this set of videos (about 20 minutes all told) during my time living just over the cave of Elijah on Mount Carmel, Israel. The O.C.D.s had invited me to stay there for an entire month during the years that I was a chaplain at Lourdes. I must say that these videos are very emotional for me to watch to this day. What a fright! But… Jesus, Mary’s Son, is just that good and kind! Even though in watching these you don’t move from station to station yourself, I’m sure your heart will be transported to be right next to Jesus, to be with Him in solidarity, and to be right next to His dear mother as she accompanies our Lord, again in all solidarity.
Please God, I’ll be able to watch these heart rending videos frequently during this Lent…

Accompany me, Father George David Byers, S.S.L., S.T.D., as I begin life as a Catholic Priest-Hermit by choice. Holy Souls Hermitage is dedicated to the sanctification of my fellow priests, bishops, deacons & seminarians going through the purgatory of this life or the next. Prayer and sacrifice go up, of course, for both Benedict XVI and the next Successor of Saint Peter.

With it being Shrove Tuesday today, some people are offering up Masses and various devotions in honour of the Holy Face of Jesus. God blessed me with a deep desire to honour His Holy Face.
These videos are heart wrenching to view! Yes, it brought tears to my eyes. The destroyer tried amongst other portions of the scenes to obliterate the Holy Face of our Lord in these beautiful works. Satan, working through man, tried to do away with the beauty of Jesus; to wreck a Holy Site by trying to divert attention from the Passion of Jesus and instead have you focus on the destruction of the works. This destruction was meant to drive the Christian away but in fact, it exacerbated the sorrow for our sins and those of mankind.
This horrible desecration of a Holy Site is a reminder of our need to make reparation… offer up reparation for every Holy Site and church damaged and desecrated; every image damaged and desecrated; every mass not celebrated worthily; every host not received worthily or desecrated, etc. When I look at the places where His Face was destroyed in the video, I see a white circle. To me it’s not an empty space! Instead, I am reminded of the Host that veils the Divinity of Christ. When we view these videos, we are looking upon His wounds. In viewing the desecration of this Holy Site, we can offer up of our sorrows to appease the anger of God and bring honour and glory to our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ .
As a nothing layperson, I feel it is good for our souls to view this Video during Lent as you suggested Father. Thank you for sharing this experience with us. It is a shocking and heart wrenching video but it’s a journey that Jesus would want us to accompany Him on. God bless you…
Thanks for that, Catherine… Yikes!
