People have been asking for this information, forcing the information out of me. Don’t forget, I can’t solicite donations, so you have to force them on me. A Canadian athiest group quipped that they should punch me unconscious and then stuff ten bucks in my shirt pocket!
So, if I mention my AMAZON WISHLIST, it’s not there for solicitation, it’s just there to remind me of some things I’m wishing for. Kind of a way of organizing things for me. If I mention my mailing address way down the mountain — which acts as a physical address for the delivery of any size package – that’s also just a reminder to me, as is the phone number of the UPS Store (which is what that address is), the phone number being useful for filling out shipping details.

There are, at present, insurmountable logistics beyond my control, which prevent me from getting a non-profit status here in North Carolina. Without that status, I cannot solicit donations. Also, to get that status, I would have to get a federal charity number. That would be easy, but I couldn’t do it in conscience. According to the Obama persecution of religion, I would have to pay for insurance for the employees of the hermitage, which would be me. To get that Obama insurance, I would be paying into an abortion on demand fund. I just won’t do that. So, there we are! Saint Francis, eat your heart out. I can’t even beg!
Also: I’ll try to get to the bank tomorrow. Some of you have sent in some checks and I really need to get them in. Sorry! Also, there’s a package at the UPS Store waiting for me… Thank you!
An example of what I can’t do:
This is the last loaf of Trappist bread to be made by the monks. They sold out a while back to a private enterprise. I got this from the Soup Kitchen in town. I can’t do that because that’s soliciting donations. No coffee either. No soaps. Zilch. Not even a paypal button, since you have to be a 501c3 for that. But I’m content with nothing. Makes life a bit easier! A bit barbaric, but easier!

Accompany me, Father George David Byers, S.S.L., S.T.D., as I begin life as a Catholic Priest-Hermit by choice. Holy Souls Hermitage is dedicated to the sanctification of my fellow priests, bishops, deacons & seminarians going through the purgatory of this life or the next. Prayer and sacrifice go up, of course, for both Benedict XVI and the next Successor of Saint Peter.

Father, when you have a spare moment would you remind yourself of some things you are wishing for on Amazon. It may be that your 3 wishes have been granted as they are all: “mark this item as purchased”.
Just askin’.
And when you remind yourself of coffee……..would that be whole bean or ground?
You remain in my prayers.
Hello thebabylonianexile!
Not sure how that works on the wishlist. If I go in as admin of the wishlist and click to see any purchased items, none appear, either meaning that none are purchased or that it is not possible for Amazon to tell if the exterior site item (all three of those items) are purchased or not. BUT, if you’re telling me that they are purchased, I’ll remove them altogether. Is that what you’re saying?
Anyway, for me, ground is the way to go. It just seems more earthy, so to speak. Thanks!
And thanks for the prayers! Truly needed.
Not a very large “wishlist”, huh, Fr.? (this is the post that I originally intended to post this comment!)
Dear Father, your lack of greed is wonderful but people like to support your work. And praying well is hard work! Shipping is expensive. Are there stores where you can find what you want (new reader)? Will pay shipping if needed but am frugal and have limited funds.
Amazon has a problem with telling within their own system whether an item has been purchased. Even if a clerk has helped to change a shipping address and knows the item has been bought using the Amazon site, if there is another vendor involved, the clerk can’t delete it from the wishlist. If this sounds confused- well maybe you had to be listening to the two clerks I talked with who couldn’t make heads or tails either. They were very kind though.
Maybe if it’s an exterior site to Amazon, people will have to send me an email!
There are stores, of course. Up the mountain is expensive, because they know you’re a captive buyer. Down the mountain is better in every way.
A little bird tells me someone wants to send you a gift card so you could obtain some building supplies or some groceries. However Lowes’ giftcards aren’t accepted at Home Depot or Walmart cards at Krogers and no one wants you to drive more than you have to . . .
Don’t think I’ve even seen a Krogers in these parts. “Ingles Markets”, yes. They are up and down the mountains. There is someone who wants to send a card that would be good in Ashville, pretty far away, but if that’s the case, maybe I could take the opportunity to turn that trip into a pilgrimage. I think there’s quite a famous roman style minor-basilica dedicated to Saint Lawrence, to whom I have a great devotion. Not that I’m soliciting any donations. I couldn’t do that anyway! Thanks, Gregg! http://www.saintlawrencebasilica.org/index.html
