Betrayal and childlike simplicity in prayer

As we daily go through all the circumstances in which we surprisingly find ourselves, our Lord is wanting that, as He provides all the grace, we simply look to Him like little children, the littlest of children, so that, instead of being ripped this way and that by whatever circumstances, with us not able to face them as we look to ourselves, we look instead only to Him, knowing that those circumstances are there, but not giving them so much importance, getting nervous before them, as if we had to muster non-existant strength to do the battle. Much better, it seems to me, to let our Lord do the battle, while we look just to Him.

Impossibly difficult circumstances, such as being betrayed by one’s friends, are not ever so much punishments for our own past infidelities and stupidities as they are an invitation to look ever more simply to our Lord. Childlike simplicity does not ignore reality of how bad things can be, but rather notices the love of our Lord, looking to Him with ever more reality, noticing those wounds in His hands and feet and side. And then we are before Him whatever the circumstances. This is a tremendous joy. All praise to our Lord Jesus, who, though He can permit this or that difficult circumstance, ever horrific, horrific betrayal, such as any Judas from back in the day… our Lord is nevertheless, in all this, so good and kind, drawing us to Himself with bonds of the Charity that God is. This is about the goodness and kindness of Jesus!
