The picture above is the mosaic in “Rosary Basilica” in Lourdes, France. I took this picture when I was a chaplain there for a couple of years. A while back I promised to post meditations on the rosary. I think of this frequently! I’d like to put in a good effort for these posts, and would like to open up a few of the Scripture books to do this. Alas, this will have to wait for the hermitage to be completed! However, perhaps I can put up a preliminary “rant version”, off the cuff, from the heart, not magnificently presented with brilliant Scriptural presentations, etc. Perhaps I can start these soon.
What I would say for now is that the rosary is a wonderful prayer if, humbly in the presence of Jesus and Mary as they are now in Heaven, we thank them presently for what they did back in the day, a couple thousand years back. The decades fly by, and we learn always more how to be the little enthusiastic children of our heavenly Father.
This is the day, three years ago, I received a letter back from Pope Benedict XVI about my first work on Genesis. I had sent the letter on the Feast of Saint Jerome, only eight days earlier. From Lourdes to the Pontifical Household, from there to the Nuncio in Paris, and then to Lourdes. Lightning quick. Very awesome. Such a humble Pontiff to deign to reply to yours truly.

Accompany me, Father George David Byers, S.S.L., S.T.D., as I begin life as a Catholic Priest-Hermit by choice. Holy Souls Hermitage is dedicated to the sanctification of my fellow priests, bishops, deacons & seminarians going through the purgatory of this life or the next. Prayer and sacrifice go up, of course, for both Benedict XVI and the next Successor of Saint Peter.
